ABOUT OSTEOPATHY
Osteopathy is the practice of applying musculoskeletal manipulation in conjunction with therapeutic procedures to treat various disorders. Osteopathic practitioners use their knowledge of the anatomy and skeletal system to diagnose and provide treatment for a wide range of age and environmental related disorders such as arthritis and occupational/sports injuries.
Osteopaths employ a wide range of techniques and treatments including joint manipulation and soft tissue massage; these treatments will frequently be combined with prescribed exorcises and advice on any relevant lifestyle changes.
Osteopathic techniques can be applied to suit patients of any age group from children and adolescents to the elderly.
All practicing osteopaths must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC); the GOsC are the official governing body for osteopaths within the UK.
Osteopathy is sometimes referred to as osteopathic medicine.
